Electrocatalysts for the Oxygen Reduction Reaction: From Bimetallic Platinum Alloys to Complex Solid Solutions

نویسندگان

چکیده

The oxygen reduction reaction has been the object of intensive research in an attempt to improve sluggish kinetics that limit performance renewable energy storage and utilization systems. Platinum or platinum bimetallic alloys are common choices as electrode material, but prohibitive costs hamper their use. Complex alloy materials, such high-entropy (HEAs), more generally, multiple principal component (MPCAs), have emerged a material capable overcoming limitations platinum-based materials. Theoretically, due large variety active sites, this new kind offers opportunity identify experimentally optimal binding site on catalyst surface. This review discusses recent advances application for existing experimental challenges benchmarking electrocatalytic properties these

Development of ruthenium-based bimetallic electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction

Ruthenium-based bimetallic electrocatalysts with non-noble metals such as Ti, Cr, Fe, Co and Pb were synthesized on a porous carbon support sing a chelation process. Rotating ring disk electrode measurements indicated that RuFeNx/C showed the catalytic activity and selectivity toward he four-electron reduction of oxygen to water comparable to those of the conventional Pt/C catalysts. The perfor...

Alloys of platinum and early transition metals as oxygen reduction electrocatalysts.

The widespread use of low-temperature polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells for mobile applications will require significant reductions in the amount of expensive Pt contained within their cathodes, which drive the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Although progress has been made in this respect, further reductions through the development of more active and stable electrocatalysts are still ne...

Nanoporous PdCr alloys as highly active electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction.

A simple and convenient dealloying method is used to prepare nanoporous (NP) PdCr alloys with uniform ligament dimensions and controllable bimetallic ratio. The structural characterization methods demonstrate that the NP-PdCr alloy is comprised of a nanoscaled interconnected network skeleton and hollow channels extending in all three dimensions. Electrocatalytic measurements indicated that the ...
